Wedding Photography - FAQs
My husband and I are currently only photographing elopements and micro weddings (10 people or less).
When a potential client gets in touch with me about their wedding photography, many of them have similar questions. Here are the answers to some of those questions. If you need more information, please give me a call at 970.884.5292, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Why should I hire a professional photographer instead of using a friend or family member?
I know lots of people who have used a friend or family member to take their wedding photos. Every one of them are unhappy with those photos. They're usually dark and out of focus. It takes a lot of practice and knowledge to capture those precious memories, so please hire a professional.
Why should we hire you and your husband for our wedding?
We are super easy to get along with, we don't stress out when things don't go right, and we work with the other vendors to keep things on track. We also are happy to provide you with contact information for other vendors that you need for your wedding (we know all the best!).
Do you include an engagement session in your Collections, and what is the value of a session?
I don't include an engagement session in my Collections because many of my clients live out of state and won't be coming here until the wedding day. I do offer them in the A la Carte section though. An engagement session is good practice for understanding how your photographer works and getting used to having the camera focused on you. It's like being a model for a day. It's also a good way for the photographer and the client to get to know each other.
How much experience do you have?
I've been photographing weddings since 2007. Before I started, I took a course that involved practicing lighting techniques, posing, and the technicalities of exposure with my camera. I had to drive to Denver to take a test and once I passed I became a Certified Professional Photographer. I also worked with another wedding photographer for two seasons before going out on my own.
What do you consider to be your style of photography?
We do both posing of the couple, the family, and the wedding party as well as photojournalism. This way we capture all of the candid fun stuff going on all around on the wedding day that you may not see, but also capture those beautiful group photos that can be printed and hung on your wall, or added to your wedding album. We like to produce bright clean images that you will still love in 20-30 years and beyond. We don't apply filters or do any affects such as selective color.
Are you the only photographer at our wedding?
My husband and I work together, so you will have two photographers for your ceremony and reception. During the portrait session with the family, the wedding party, and the couple, he holds my lighting equipment. He likes to say he's my lighting technician:) You want to make sure your photographer has lighting equipment for the formal portraits, and also for the reception if it's at night or inside.
Do you have a minimum number of hours you will work?
We will work for as many hours as you would like. The average wedding that we photograph runs around 6 hrs. We also do a lot of elopements and they usually take a couple of hours. If you would like to receive our pricing information, send me an email at email@example.com and I'll be happy to send a link to you.
Do you have backup equipment?
Yes, we always have backup cameras, flashes, batteries, and plenty of cf cards for the cameras.
Do you fully edit the photos?
When we shoot the photos, they are called RAW images because they don't have any editing done at all. They are rather flat and the colors aren't great, so yes we do color correcting, add contrast, and remove unwanted items. You will receive all of the edited images on a dvd or usb. For elopements, we usually download the images to Dropbox and send them to you that way.
How do you and your husband dress for the wedding day?
We both wear pants and shirts/blouse that are dark in color.
Do you need a list of specific shots?
You can send us a list of the family shots you would like. Otherwise, we know to capture everything going on during the wedding day. We also work with the DJ or Band to put together a timeline for the day so we all know what's going on and keep things moving so there's no stress for you.
What are the payment terms?
We usually require half of the total paid upon signing the Wedding Photography Agreement, and the other half two weeks before the wedding. We are more than willing to work with you on a payment plan though if that works better for you.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, we are fully insured.
Do you have a Guarantee?
Yes, we 100% guarantee that you will love your wedding (or portrait) images, or we'll fully refund your money.
Do you meet with couples before the wedding?
If you live in the area, or are coming to visit, we are more than happy to meet with you. Many of our clients come to the Durango area for their wedding because it's so beautiful here, but they don't come until just before the wedding, so many times we don't get to meet beforehand. We also send you an on line Wedding Information form so we get to know all about both of you, your family, wedding party, your hobbies, etc.
Do we get the copyright on the images?
Technically, the copyright belongs to the photographer. However, you will have full printing rights to all of them. We can also print them for you, and we make gorgeous Wedding Albums. We would be happy to show you samples.
What happens if you are sick on the day of the wedding?
Both of us are very healthy and rarely get sick, and in all the years we've been photographing weddings, we've never missed one yet. However, we do belong to a group of local photographers who refer each other in cases like this, so we would find you a photographer for your wedding.
